I am really behind the times with this whole blog following business. I just discovered google friend connect and bloglovin. Like some of you told me you followed me with GFC and I had to GOOGLE what that was. Oy.
Am I the only one who is confused by there being SO many ways to keep in touch with my favorite bloggers? The thing that I find really confusing is that some of these overlap, but some of them don't. Or do they? I'm all turned around.
Even though I don't really understand all of these different options, I decided to jump on the bandwagon. So, I set up google friend connect and bloglovin. Fancy, right?
So, for the record, there are a number of ways you can follow me. You can . . .
And for extra friend bonus points, you can also follow me on twitter
Thinking about this has also made me question the way I follow blogs. A while ago I deleted all of my blogger subscriptions and started using feedly, a reader similar to google reader. But, now I'm second guessing this choice.
So, I'm curious - how do you keep up with your favorite blogs? I'm thinking about switching to something other than feedly. What would you recommend?
Is it easy enough to follow me? Should I be doing something different?
Also, since that secret was kind of lame here is a better one. Sometimes, if I find an outfit that I really like I'll wear it multiple times during the week to see different people. I hope I'm not the only one who does that!
And don't forget to participate in my first ever Married in Chicago Giveaway! One person will win a 50 dollar visa gift card!
I think I'm just stubborn, or maybe lazy, or maybe I just enjoy seeing all the blog backgrounds, but I don't have any system of keeping track of blogs. The closest I have is my Link Lover page, remembering the blogs I love, and if I see a Tweet about an entry, or someone comments on my page, I'm more likely to go visit.
ReplyDeleteAnni - I am in SHOCK that you don't have a way to keep track of the blogs you like! Shock, I tell you. Maybe I just spend way too much time reading blogs?
ReplyDeleteI follow solely with Google Reader - I feel like it's terrible for bloggers because it doesn't register on their "followers" or stats, but it's the easiest way for me.
ReplyDeleteAnd YES on the outfit secret. I recently put a favorite cowl neck sweater with a favorite v-neck sweater I'd never thought to pair before and my fiance even remarked how "You've been wearing that a lot." Oops.
I use google reader to keep track of all my blogs. I resisted like Anni for so long, and then finally I realized I was missing out, so I jumped on the google reader bandwagon. I miss the pretty backgrounds from the blogs though.
ReplyDeleteI am much better at keeping up with blogs if I get email updates. But I am starting to use GFC better and actually log in to Blogger. I am way new myself ha ha.
ReplyDeleteI use the google friend connect instead of any kind of RSS, because otherwise I'm to lazy to visit people's pages and comment.
ReplyDeleteand yeah, if I actually come up with a cool outfit, I keep rockin' it until it gets obvious stains down the front... : )
lol!! I love GFC cause I can read it through my blogger dashboard, or in my google reader. I still click thru and come to every blog that I read, so that I can comment, but it keeps them all together.
ReplyDeleteI'm following you via GFC and twitter :)
And yes, I do that with outfits too! Are there really people who don't?!
I think I'm going to use Bloglovin. It's so hard to manage the blogs I read in my reader. So many folks don't even write anymore but it won't let me remove them!
ReplyDeleteLike Megan, I used GFC. When you first log on to Blogger.com (your Dashboard page shows up), all the blogs that you are following show up in a nice little feed with images, post titles and blog names. It helps me keep up with reading the blogs I follow.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower of yours! Thanks for following me :)
Thanks for following my blog! I'm now following yours. I am new to blogging so this is all new lingo to me too! I like seeing everyone's backgrounds so I use GFC. I'm up for trying out bloglovin too though. Have a fabulous day and let me know what you find works best!
ReplyDeleteHeck yeah, bloglovin! I hate GFC and reader, mainly because I have tried to unsubscribe and delete the same blogs over and over and I can't ever get rid of them. They'll come right back the next day. Infuriating. Loving Bloglovin so far and the fact that you actually pop into the blog to read it.
ReplyDeleteI do that with new clothes too!
ReplyDeleteI just use google reader. I really don't care to see who is following me specifically. I do like using google analytics though. It tells you how many page hits you get and from where and stuff like that. :)
I guess I'm not with it because I don't use anything to keep up with blogs I like except by using the bookmark system.
ReplyDeleteI bookmark blogs I like, and visit those blogs when time permits. I don't officially or formally follow anyone by participating in blogger subscriptions.
There's nothing wrong with that, but I don't check my email regularly so what's the point in subscribing?
But there certainly are several blogs that I visit all the time and follow even though I don't officially subscribe. :)
It seems like lately it is hard to keep up with all of the ways you can connect and subscribe!
ReplyDeleteFor blogs I keep it simple and just add them to Google Reader. I have folders for the types of blogs so that I can easily see when one of those blogs from 'friends in real life' has new posts and keep it from getting lost in the mix of'design and inspiration only' type of blogs... works for me.
I use GFC because it's linked in with my Blogger Dashboard which makes it easy. Honestly all these other way to follow are so confusing!
ReplyDeleteI used to use google friend connect exclusively, but then I had a lot of trouble unsubscribing to blogs that I didn't want to read anymore. I changed over to subscribing in google reader and haven't had that problem since. I like to keep different blogs in different folders (your blog is in my marriage/newlywed life folder!). I like google reader too because I can access it easily on my phone for those times that I'm bored :)
ReplyDeleteIf a blog has it, I use GFC first. That way it'll automatically show up in my Google Reader. But I agree that it's crappy to not be able to easily manage subscriptions. I have a nightmare trying to remember how to delete one every now and then. I just recently got into Bloglovin but haven't explored it much.
ReplyDeleteWhat really confuses me is how people keep track of their e-mail, RSS and followers through Google Reader. Some people will say they follow my blog, but I don't see them in my followers list, so I'm really just confused on that whole shebang.
Oh, and on the outfit - I totally do that too! : )
I follow through google and google reader. I LOVE it because I downloaded the google reader app on my phone and I can read no matter where I am! Thanks for following me! I am now following you!
ReplyDeletewelcome to the world of blogging sometimes it is confusing! there are so many times I sit at my computer screen and wonder what someone is talking about ... it will get easier! Thank-you for finding me! And for your words of wisdom :) they really helped!
ReplyDeleteWell, if I can take one thing away from all of is it is that I'm not the only one who isn't completely happy with her blog reader! From my limited experience, I am liking GFC and bloglovin looks like it is pretty cool too. Thank you so much for sharing your opinions!!!! It is really helpful :)
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out the best ways to follow blogs, have my blog follow & get my blog out to others. Some days its all so overwhelming.
